FTSE 250 movers: Hunting gushes higher on results; Dixons tumbles on warning

Thu 24 Aug 2017

LONDON (SHARECAST) - (ShareCast News) - London's FTSE 250 was flat at 19,743.56 in afternoon trade on Thursday.
Construction services group Carillion was recovering from heavy losses in the previous session, which traders attributed to short selling, while oilfield services company Hunting gushed higher as it reported a narrower loss for the first half.

William Hill was boosted by an upgrade to 'hold' from 'sell' at Investec, which said the risk/reward is now more balanced following a fall in the share price.

OneSavings Bank was in the black after it posted a 20% increase in first-half profit as its loan book grew. In the six months to the end of June, underlying pre-tax profit rose to 78.4m from 65.3m in the first half of 2016, with loan book growth of 10% to 6.5bn, driven by 26% growth in gross organic origination to 1.2bn. Analysts had been expecting underlying profit of 76.8m.

Going the other way, Dixons Carphone tumbled after warning that profits for the full year will be well short of expectations due to a new business model of its sales software, while also saying the UK mobile phone was proving "more challenging".

Greencore was in the red even as it tried to reassure investors it was on track following recent share price weakness. The company said it was not aware of any developments since its third-quarter update that changed the outlook.

Petrofac retreated as the troubled oilfield services company backed chief executive Ayman Asfari after he was fined by Italian regulators for alleged insider trading.

Cineworld was weaker as its stock went ex-dividend.
