LONDON (SHARECAST) - (ShareCast News) - London's FTSE 250 index was flat at 19,712.72 at 1515 BST in fairly uneventful trading as we head into the Bank Holiday weekend.
IT services provider Computacenter surged after reporting a 15% jump in first-half revenue thanks in part to favourable currency movements and an "outstanding" performance in its German business, and saying it remains on track for a record performance in 2017. In the six months to the end of June, adjusted pre-tax profit rose to £41.9m from £25.3m the year before, on revenue of £1.7bn, up from £1.5bn in the first half of 2016.
In addition, the group expects to return around £100m to shareholders in the fourth quarter, bringing the total returned to shareholders, via ordinary and special returns, to £648m since listing on the LSE in May 1998.
Dixons Carphone was in the black, clawing back some of the heavy losses seen on Thursday after a profit warning. The company said annual profits would fall well short of expectations due to the new business model of its sales software division, while also cautioning that the UK mobile phone market was proving "more challenging".
Going the other way, Garfunkel's owner Restaurant Group was in the red ahead of interim results next Thursday.
Hunting was also weaker, giving back some of the gains from the previous day when it said it had managed to reduce its underlying losses by 82% to $9.1m in the first half.
