LONDON (SHARECAST) - (ShareCast News) - London's FTSE 100 was down 1% to 7,328.80 in afternoon trade on Tuesday as geopolitical tensions sparked a 'risk-off' session.
Precious metals miners Randgold Resources and Fresnillo shone, boosted by a rally in gold prices as North Korea's missile strike over Japan prompted a flight to safe havens.
CRH was in the red despite a positive note from JPMorgan Cazenove, which reiterated its 'overweight' stance on the stock. Last Thursday, shares in the building materials group rallied after it posted a 27% jump in first-half pre-tax profit as it announced an agreement to sell its Americas distribution division to Beacon Roofing Supply for $2.63bn in cash.
Broadcaster ITV was under the cosh after a revenue warning from German peer ProSiebenSat.1, which cut its third-quarter guidance on Tuesday as it cautioned that ad revenues in German-language markets were set to drop. ProSiebenSat shares were down just over 13%.
Morrisons was weaker as Deutsche Bank reiterated its 'hold' rating on the stock, saying the valuation is full, but lifted its price target to 235p from 225p.
