FTSE 100 movers: Precious metals miners rally as gold gains; Micro Focus slips

Mon 04 Sep 2017

LONDON (SHARECAST) - (ShareCast News) - London's FTSE 100 was down 0.3% to 7,412.98 in afternoon trade following the release of weaker-than-expected UK construction data and amid worries about North Korea.
Precious metals miners Fresnillo and Randgold Resources were the standout gainers, boosted by a rally in gold prices, which rose to an 11-month high as investors looked for somewhere safe to park their cash following North Korea's hydrogen bomb test over the weekend.

DCC was trading higher after Exane BNP Paribas upgraded the stock to 'outperform' from 'neutral' and lifted the price target by 4% to 7,800p.

Going the other way, Micro Focus was on the back foot as it completed its merger with HPE Software and said it expects to deliver medium-term benefits from the takeover.

Experian retreated after Exane BNP Paribas cut its stance on the stock to 'underperform' from 'neutral' and reduced the target price to 1,375p from 1,600p.

Reckitt Benckiser was under the cosh following news that heads of its information technology, human resources, marketing and developing markets will leave the company.
